In The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson is attacked by many monsters, who are secretly hidden by the Mist, which prevents mortals from seeing them. Percy finds out he is a son of Poseidon, and is being hunted down. He is sent to Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for all demigods. He shows his potential through training lessons and games of capture the flag, and is sent on a journey to find the mighty and lethal lightning bolt of Zeus, who seems to despise Percy the most, as there was a pact between the Big 3 (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades) that they would not have any more children with mortals. So, Percy sees this as a chance to make his amends with the Big 3, and finally meet his dad. He searches for the bolt with his best friend Grover, a satyr, and Annabeth Chase, a girl he met at Camp Half-Blood. Percy develops his powers and learns how to use water to his advantage.
